Nationals and Ross Detwiler Avoid Arbitration; 2014 Contract Signed

January 16, 2014

The Washington Nationals continued to make offseason headlines this evening when they were able to settle on a contract for 2014 with 6’5″ left handed pitcher Ross Detwiler, essentially avoiding arbitration.  His signing should help solidify the fifth starting spot in the Nationals lineup.

However, Mike Rizzo stated earlier this offseason that it could become a competition with Tyler Cameron, Nathan Karns, and Tanner Roark putting the pressure on the former Nats 1st round draft pick from 2007.

Detwiler is entering his 7th season as a Washington National after missing time last season with various injuries.  According to Mark Zuckerman of CSNWashington.com, Detwiler avoided arbitration and signed a 1-year deal worth $3,000,000 including a potential $50,000 bonus if he pitches 180 innings.
